Harry and his friends Ron and Hermione, went to Howarts for their third school year as magicians. That year there was a new danger out of the school. A magician called Sirius Black, run out of jail and he was willing to kill Harry as he was one of Volvemort’s servant. This was the reason why the dementors, who are a kind of dangerous magic police, were always guarding the school’s walls.
One day, Ron discovered that his rat, Scabbers, had disappeared and he thought that Hermione’s cat had eaten it but Ron, Hermione and Harry saw Sacabbers when they were visiting Hagrid. On their way back to the castle, Ron was attacked by a black dog which took him inside the Whomping Willow. Harry and Hermione followed them and they discovered that the dog was the animagus Sirius Black. When Harry was about to attack Black, proffesor Lupin arrived and stopped him. Lupin explained that he was a werewolf and that he, Black, Pettigrew, and James Potter (Harry's father) were great friends and to make his transformations more enjoyable they became Aminagi. They remained friends after growing up, and when they learned Voldemort was after the Potters, Black became their Secret-Keeper. However, Black then revealed that he had secretly switched this duty with Pettigrew in order to serve as a decoy. Black stated Pettigrew was the betrayer and, rather than being murdered by Black, is actually Scabbers.

Harry thought that the best thing they could do was to take Pettigrew to the school and to tell everyone the real history so Black’s name would be cleaned. However, when they were going to the castle, the full moon appears and Lupin transformed in a werewolf and started attacking Harry so Black transformed in a big black dog and defended Harry while Pettigrew transformed in a rat and escaped. A strange howl alerted Lupin and lured him away from Harry. Harry finded an unconscious Sirius lying by a pond, where Dementors suddenly descended on the pair and nearly killed them. They are saved at the last minute by a strange figure using the Patronus Charm, which Harry believed to be his father.
Harry awaked in the castle and learned that Sirius had been captured so to help him Harry and Hermione used a Time-Turner to travel back in time and prevent his capture. They re-watched the scenes of the night and discovered that the one who had made the Patronus was actually Harry. They rescued Sirius and he flew away with Buckbeak.
